An engine bay collects road grime, oil residue, and dust in a way that never gets touched by a regular wash, and after a few years it can look like a completely different car from what is sitting on top of it. Cleaning it properly starts with covering sensitive components, the alternator, exposed connectors, air intake, anything that should not get soaked directly with water or degreaser.

Degreaser goes on the plastic covers, shrouds, and bay surfaces and gets agitated to break down the built up grime, then rinsed carefully with controlled water pressure rather than a hose blasted directly at electrical components. This is where a rushed job causes real problems, water forced into a connector or sensor housing can cause a short or a corrosion issue that shows up weeks later as an electrical fault that has nothing obviously to do with a wash.

Once clean and dried, plastic and rubber components get dressed to protect against UV cracking, which matters for hoses and covers that sit exposed to sun even when the hood is closed. A clean bay also makes it much easier to spot a new oil or coolant leak before it becomes a bigger problem.

The order of work

How a engine bay cleaning job runs

  1. Protect sensitive parts

Covers go over the alternator, connectors, and intake before any water or degreaser is applied.

  2. Degrease

Degreaser is applied to plastic covers and surfaces and agitated to break down built up grime and residue.

  3. Rinse carefully

Controlled water pressure clears the degreaser without forcing water into electrical components.

  4. Dry thoroughly

The bay is dried before moving on so no trapped moisture sits against metal or electrical parts.

  5. Dress plastics and rubber

A dressing is applied to protect plastic and rubber components from UV cracking.

Asked about engine bay cleaning

Questions we get asked

Is this safe to do on my car's engine?

Done with proper covering of sensitive components and controlled water pressure, yes, it is standard practice and does not involve soaking anything that should stay dry.

Will cleaning the engine bay help me spot a leak?

Yes, a clean bay makes a new oil or coolant leak much easier to spot early, since it stands out against clean surfaces instead of blending into existing grime.

How often should the engine bay be cleaned?

That depends on how the car is driven and stored, but it is not something that needs to happen on the same schedule as a regular wash.

How long does a ceramic coating last?

We offer a 5 year and a 9 year ceramic coating package. How long yours actually lasts comes down to how the car is washed and looked after once the coating is on.

What does a ceramic coating do?

It bonds to your clear coat and adds a hard, water repelling layer. It protects against UV, dirt, road grime and water spots, it deepens the gloss, and it makes the car much easier to wash.
