Window Coating in Portland, OR
A hydrophobic glass coating that makes rain bead and run off the windshield instead of smearing across it.
Portland gets months of steady rain, and anyone who has driven at night in that weather knows what it does to visibility once the wipers start smearing water instead of clearing it. A window coating changes how water behaves on the glass. Instead of sheeting and smearing, it beads up and gets pushed off by airflow and wiper contact, which keeps the windshield clearer at highway speed and reduces how hard the wipers have to work.
The glass gets polished and decontaminated before coating, which matters more than people expect. Years of wiper use and mineral deposits from rain leave fine etching and water spots on the glass itself, and coating over that just locks in a hazy surface. Polishing that out first is what actually restores clarity, and the coating on top is what keeps new spots from forming as fast.
Cheap spray on treatments sold at the auto parts store wear off within a few weeks of wiper use. A properly bonded coating holds up over months of regular driving through wet Oregon winters.
How a window coating job runs
-
Clean and decontaminate
Glass is stripped of old wax, sealant, and residue so the coating has a bare surface to bond to.
-
Polish out spotting
Fine polishing removes water spot etching and restores clarity to the glass before coating.
-
Apply the coating
A hydrophobic coating is applied and worked into the surface by hand.
-
Buff and cure
Excess coating is buffed off and the glass cures before it goes back into daily use.
Questions we get asked
Does this go on just the windshield or the whole car?
It can go on any glass surface, though most people get the windshield and front side windows done first since those matter most for visibility while driving.
How long before it needs to be redone?
It holds up through months of regular wiper use and rain, but wiper wear and hard water will eventually wear the coating down and it will need a fresh application at that point.
Does it help with interior fogging?
Not directly, since the coating goes on the outside of the glass. It is built to shed exterior rain and improve visibility while driving, not to address interior condensation.
How long does a ceramic coating last?
We offer a 5 year and a 9 year ceramic coating package. How long yours actually lasts comes down to how the car is washed and looked after once the coating is on.
What does a ceramic coating do?
It bonds to your clear coat and adds a hard, water repelling layer. It protects against UV, dirt, road grime and water spots, it deepens the gloss, and it makes the car much easier to wash.
